BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has stated that the trial process of Sheikh Hasina is not related to the election and that there is no turning back from electoral progress. Speaking to the media after a roundtable discussion organized by the Ship Breakers and Recyclers Association at a hotel in Banani on Wednesday, March 5, he emphasized that a government elected by the people would be committed to holding Sheikh Hasina and the autocratic Awami League government accountable.
Addressing another question, Khasru remarked that Sheikh Hasina’s authoritarian approach is evident in her insistence on implementing her own proposals without compromise. During the discussion, he also criticized the government for merely monitoring the ship-breaking industry under the pretext of pollution concerns rather than providing necessary support. He urged the authorities to facilitate the sector instead of creating obstacles.
Khasru further commented that Bangladesh has become an overly regulated country, making it difficult for people to establish industries. He stressed that if a government is formed through people's votes, all trade organizations would be allowed to self-regulate. Additionally, he blamed politics for the destruction of the country’s economy and the erosion of social ethics.
