BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has claimed that some are trying to erase the history of Bangladesh’s Liberation War. Speaking at a discussion on the occasion of Independence Day on Tuesday, March 25, he stated that those who once aided the massacres of 1971 are now speaking with authority. He also alleged that during the war, Awami League leaders fled the country, leaving the people unprotected, while it was Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman who declared independence and provided guidance.
Mirza Fakhrul further claimed that Sheikh Mujibur Rahman surrendered to Pakistan under the cover of night. He accused Awami League of abandoning its people in critical moments, drawing a parallel to August 2024, when, according to him, they once again left their supporters behind and fled to India by helicopter.
Highlighting BNP’s stance on governance reforms, Fakhrul argued that Ziaur Rahman was the pioneer of structural changes in Bangladesh, followed by Khaleda Zia’s major reforms. He mentioned BNP’s current 31-point reform proposal as part of its vision for national transformation.
Regarding democracy, Fakhrul emphasized that elections are essential for democratic governance but alleged that new conspiracies are being hatched to delay the electoral process. He also warned against misinformation on social media and attempts to discredit the military, asserting that BNP would not allow the nation’s patriotic armed forces to be drawn into controversy.
