BNP Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas stated that if the late President Ziaur Rahman were alive, Israel would not have dared to carry out its brutal attacks on Palestinians. He made this remark on Thursday, April 10, while speaking at a rally organized by the BNP to protest Israeli aggression and express solidarity with the oppressed people of Palestine.
Abbas accused Israel of not only targeting Palestinians but of slowly aiming to wipe out Muslims across the world. He criticized the silence of powerful Muslim nations in the face of such violence. Referring to reports of some Bangladeshi youths fighting for Palestine, he claimed that Ziaur Rahman’s leadership would have prevented such atrocities.
He further warned that unless the United Nations takes decisive action, the oppression will continue, and Israel will gradually destroy the Muslim community worldwide. Abbas also criticized Bangladesh's government for not voicing protest even though Muslims are facing persecution in neighboring countries as well.
At the same rally, another BNP Standing Committee member, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, reiterated the party’s stance in favor of justice and humanity. He expressed disappointment over the interim government’s silence on Palestine and noted the lack of response from civil society. He blamed divisions in the Muslim world for allowing such violence to persist and pointed out the formal ties between Israel and both India and the United States. Roy concluded by saying that while many are focused on stopping the BNP from returning to power, few are speaking up for Palestine.
