On the occasion of International Workers' Day, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is organizing a public rally today, Thursday (May 1), under the banner of its affiliated labor wing, Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal. As of 10:30 a.m., party leaders and activists were arriving in processions at the BNP’s central office in Naya Paltan, Dhaka.
The rally is scheduled to formally begin at 2:00 p.m., with BNP’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman expected to join virtually from London as the chief guest. Other senior leaders, including Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, will also deliver speeches. During the event, the Sramik Dal will present a 12-point demand related to labor rights and reforms.
While the gathering commemorates International Workers' Day, it also marks BNP’s return to street-level programs after a prolonged hiatus. The party, which has been vocal about the need for a swift general election, is likely to use this platform to reiterate its call for urgent electoral reforms followed by national polls. Tarique Rahman is expected to deliver directives and strategic guidance during his address.
