BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s return to the country will help ease the path toward restoring democracy, said the party’s Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir. Speaking to reporters at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Tuesday morning, he said, “After four months of treatment, Begum Zia is returning home today. It’s a day of joy for us, and for the nation as well. Her return will make our journey toward democratic restoration easier and steer the country toward a more equitable future.”
Khaleda Zia is returning from London after undergoing advanced medical treatment and spending time with her family. She is accompanied by her two daughters-in-law, members of her medical board, and others—nine people in total. Her aircraft, a Qatar Royal Air Ambulance, is scheduled to land at the airport around 10 a.m. Thousands of BNP leaders and activists have already gathered at the airport to welcome her.
