After four months of advanced medical treatment in London, BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia has returned to Bangladesh and expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the people of the country. She arrived at her Gulshan residence, Firoza, on Tuesday, May 6, where she thanked the nation for their prayers and support. Her personal physician, Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain, confirmed that she is now in a more stable condition both physically and mentally, though the long journey was taxing due to her health. He added that despite her frailty, Khaleda chose to be with her people, as she has always preferred. Dr. Zahid also hinted at the possible return of Tarique Rahman in the near future, stating that his wife, Dr. Zubaida Rahman, who has recently returned, will soon travel back to London and then return again with Tarique. Earlier in the day, at 10:40 a.m., a Qatar Royal Air Ambulance carrying Khaleda Zia landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka, where she was received by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and other senior leaders. She departed the airport at 11:25 a.m. and reached her residence by 1:25 p.m., greeted by a large crowd of supporters. In a touching moment at London’s Heathrow Airport the previous day, her son Tarique Rahman, who has been in exile for 17 years, personally drove her to the airport alongside his wife Zubaida, marking an emotional farewell. Along with Khaleda Zia, several members of her medical team and leaders of UK BNP also returned to Bangladesh.
