Top 8 officials of Islami Bank have been dismissed

Eight top executives of Islami Bank, owned by S Alam Group, have been sacked. The management authority of the bank dismissed them. Among them, one is Additional Managing Director (AMD) and five are Deputy Managing Directors (DMD) and the remaining two are heads of two departments of the bank. After the fall of the Awami League government, they were dismissed under pressure from the officials who were appointed before the takeover of the bank.

They were dismissed in an order signed by the bank’s top executive on Monday. 18 is mentioned in the dismissal order. Those who have been sacked are – Additional Managing Director JQM Habibullah, Deputy Managing Director Akiz Uddin, Mohammad Sabbir, Miftah Uddin, Qazi Rezaul Karim and Abdullah Al Mamun. Apart from this, Chief Anti Money Laundering Officer (CAMELCO) Taher Ahmed Chowdhury and Principal of Training Institute Nazrul Islam.

According to bank sources, they are all close to S Alam Group. Among them, Akiz Uddin was the private secretary of Saiful Alam and Miftah Uddin was in charge of the investment department of Islami Bank.

Since the fall of the government, the bank officials have been continuing the movement to free the bank from S Alam and Patia. They are demanding the dissolution of the board of directors of the bank as well as the prosecution of the officials involved in the irregularities in the disbursement of loans. Apart from this, in the last 7 years Saiful Alam’s own area Patiya of Chittagong, about 10 thousand officials have been appointed. After the fall of the government, S. Alampanthi officials are unable to go to the bank.

In 2017, the S Alam Group, a business group close to the Awami League government, took control of the ownership and management of Islami Bank as an initiative to de-jamaat-free the Awami League government’s political decision. After that, in seven and a half years, S. Alam and its interest groups took out Tk 50,000 crore from the bank anonymously.
