Parties Respond to Chief Advisor’s Call for Unity to Prevent Conspiracy
Leaders of BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, and NCP met with Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus at the Jamuna State Guest House today, following the recent attack on Sharif Osman Hadi, a potential independent candidate for Dhaka-8 and coordinator of the Inquilab Forum.
During the meeting, Professor Yunus urged the political parties to remain united to prevent conspiracies, warning that deposed forces were attempting to disrupt the upcoming elections. Party leaders assured the Chief Advisor that they would set aside internal disputes and stand together to counter any such threats.
The gathering took place the day after Hadi was shot on the streets of Dhaka. He sustained a gunshot wound to the head and is currently in critical condition at Evercare Hospital. Prior to the meeting, Professor Yunus also met with Hadi’s family to offer support.
Participants included BNP Standing Committee members Salahuddin Ahmed and Hafizuddin Ahmed, Jamaat Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar and Assistant Secretary General Ehsanul Mahbub Zubayer, NCP coordinator Nahid Islam, and the party’s key organizer for the southern region, Hasnat Abdullah. Legal advisor Asif Najrul and Inquilab Forum Secretary Abdullah Al Jaber were also present.
Attack a Warning, Not an Isolated Incident
Professor Yunus described the attack as part of a premeditated conspiracy involving significant forces aiming to prevent the elections. “This assault is highly symbolic,” he said, adding that the perpetrators appear to have mobilized trained shooters and an extensive network.
He stressed that both the government and political parties must demonstrate strength and unity to counter these threats. “Internal conflicts before elections play into the hands of those trying to sabotage the process,” Yunus said, urging leaders to avoid turning political disagreements into personal animosities.
Unity as a Strategic Imperative
BNP leader Salahuddin emphasized the need for solidarity. “We must remain united under all circumstances and avoid blaming one another. Despite political differences, our unity is essential for the nation and for protecting the legacy of July.”
Jamaat leader Mia Golam Parwar echoed this sentiment, warning against allowing minor party disputes to create opportunities for adversaries. “We must maintain unity and uphold commitments across all parties,” he said.
NCP coordinator Nahid Islam highlighted media narratives portraying the July uprising as criminal, arguing that efforts were underway to normalize the ruling and allied parties through talk shows, administrative meetings, and university outreach. He called for coordinated action to counter these narratives, stating, “The conspirators see our disunity as our defeat. They operate freely from abroad, and we must respond together.”
Hasnat Abdullah added, “No security measure will be effective unless we remain united ourselves.”
The meeting concluded with a collective pledge from the party leaders to maintain unity and vigilance in the face of ongoing threats.
