On the evening of Tuesday, March 25, Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus addressed the nation on the occasion of Independence Day and Eid-ul-Fitr.
In his speech, he solemnly remarked that March 25, 1971, was a dark chapter in human civilization, marking a brutal massacre. On that night, the Pakistani military launched a ruthless assault on unarmed, sleeping Bengalis, killing thousands. He emphasized that from that moment, the people of Bangladesh rose in armed resistance, leading to a nine-month-long war that ultimately secured the nation's independence.
Paying deep respect to the martyrs of the Liberation War, he stated, “The bloodshed of millions and the sacrifice of two hundred thousand oppressed women gave birth to an independent Bangladesh on the world map. I salute these brave souls.”
Additionally, he honored the memory of those killed and wounded in the July Uprising, acknowledging their courage in standing against injustice, exploitation, and oppression. He affirmed, “The July Uprising has given us the opportunity to realize our dream of a just and equitable Bangladesh, and we are committed to seizing this opportunity.”
