Interim government Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus emphasized the need to strengthen worker-employer relations to build a “New Bangladesh.” Speaking on Thursday (May 1) at the May Day discussion hosted by the Ministry of Labour and Employment at the China-Bangladesh Friendship Conference Center, Dr. Yunus noted that real change cannot come while workers remain stuck in the conditions of the past. He stated that this year’s May Day stands apart, marking a fresh opportunity for reform following July’s political upheaval. According to Dr. Yunus, the Labour Reform Commission—formed with input from all stakeholders—has already laid out crucial recommendations, and their implementation is essential to laying the foundation of a transformed nation. Stressing that the progress of any country depends on both its hardworking labor force and responsible business owners, he called for unity between these groups. He reiterated the interim administration’s commitment to upholding international labor standards and concluded the event by distributing financial assistance checks to workers.
