Jamaat-e-Islami has urged Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus to ban the activities of the Jatiya Party, calling it “an ally of the Awami League.”

“Since the Jatiya Party acted as an ally of the Awami League, the measures you took against the Awami League can also be applied to the Jatiya Party,” said Jamaat-e-Islami Nayeb-e-Ameer Syed Abdullah Muhammad Taher.

Taher later spoke to journalists after meeting with the chief adviser at the state guest house, Jamuna, around 6:30 pm.

Earlier this year, on May 12, the interim government prohibited all activities of the Awami League and its affiliated organizations over allegations including killings, genocide, crimes against humanity, and other serious offenses during the July uprising.

At today’s briefing, the Jamaat leader said the chief adviser emphasized that the July Charter is “a matter of significant interest and must be implemented.”

“Allowing the election process to proceed without fulfilling the July Charter would be a flawed decision. This happened because one party insisted on holding the election in February. However, the other parties are united in demanding the implementation of the July Charter,” he added.

Taher further noted, “There is a form of discrimination here — one party is treated as the offender, while the rest of us are on the defensive. The playing field is not level, and the chief adviser must address this imbalance before the election.”
