VC Professor Atiqul Islam of North South University is still in custody for corruption, plundering and endless misdeeds. During the anti-discrimination movement, this VC used to send the video footage of the protesting students, call the police, DB and CTTC team and hand over the students to them. After that, brutal torture, unlimited brutality continued on the students throughout the night. The VC’s stony heart did not melt even with the screams and pleas of the oppressed, instead all the gates of the university were closed and even shelter was not given to them.

It did not end here, the VC used to collect the addresses of the houses where the students stayed on rent in Bashundhara residential area and sent them to the law enforcement agencies. From July 18 to August 5, police raids were going on all night in those houses. Apart from beating the students in an inhuman way, the police used to take away their laptops, mobiles, even money.

VC Atiqul Islam, who is a relative of recently ousted Law Minister Anisul Haque and a close friend of former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, has always been very reckless as a friend of the Awami League. By using their powers, he extended his tenure as VC three times in a row. Under the influence of Beshuma, VC Atiqul Islam has built an empire of corruption and plunder in North South University. In this regard, whoever he considered an obstacle, he removed from the university. One by one, he dismissed all the members of the board of trustees, filed a case against those who had spoken two words against him and handed it over to the ACC. He has even dismissed the teachers and handed them over to the law enforcement agencies, even after naming them militants. In addition, Atiqul Islam has become the sole ruler of North South through threats, lawsuits and harassment.

The agitating students and parents have already staged a human chain and protest against VC Prof. Atiq, accusing him of corruption, irregularities, moral turpitude and oppression of the students in the anti-discrimination movement. They also gave an ultimatum to VC and Proctor to resign. But the VC is not heeding anything, instead he is showing threats, intimidation and intimidation. The VC has been openly saying that the three advisors of the current interim government are his close friends, who are also ruling that those agitating against him will be severely punished. Extreme tension is going on in North South University.

VC Atiqul is being trapped in money fraud!

Vice-Chancellor of the private North South University. The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has started an investigation against Atiqul Islam for allegedly defrauding money while buying a car and land in the name of the university. Officer Anwarul Haque has been given the responsibility of investigation. Earlier, after investigating against some members of the board of trustees of this university, the ACC submitted the charge sheet excluding the name of VC Atiqul Islam. ACC decided to carry out a comprehensive investigation if the aggrieved complainants applied for re-investigation.

It has been mentioned in the re-investigation application that although Atiqul Islam is currently the VC, he is also a member of the board of trustees. But according to the private university law, the VC cannot be on the board of trustees. As a result, it is illegal under Section 35 (7) of the University Act. Trustees cannot take any advantage in law. But the Vice-Chancellor takes salary from the University. The VC was also involved in earlier investigations of corruption allegations against other members of the Board of Trustees and was present at all Trustee meetings and consented to the decision. He is also involved in money fraud, especially in the purchase of 12 cars in the name of the university, it is mentioned in the charge sheet.

It is to be noted that in October 2022, the ACC approved the charge sheet of the money laundering case filed against 9 people including former trustee board members of North South (NSU). It is said in the charge sheet that the purchase price of 9 thousand 96.88 decimal land in the name of North South University campus development is 303 crore 82 lakh 13 thousand by bypassing the recommendation or approval of the University Syndicate, University Grant Commission, Ministry of Education i.e. the government with the approval or consent of some members of the Board of Trustees. 497 has criminally paid or received additional money of Tk.

In other words, for the purpose of embezzling the money of the university fund, despite buying the land at a low price, he paid the money in the seller’s name first by showing the high price. Later, they withdrew the money from the seller through cash checks in the names of their own people and embezzled the FDRs and withdrawals in their own names. Extorting extra money from students in December 2021, embezzling the money of the institution in the name of FDR, misappropriating lakhs of rupees in the name of giving jobs to spouses, buying cars by evading government tax and illegally using luxurious houses and embezzling the money of the institution under the cover of taking advantage of various immoral facilities. ACC has called for documents in the complaint.

 VC in third term by breaking the law

There is no custom of appointing Vice-Chancellor for the third time in any public or private university. According to the Private Universities Act, the Vice-Chancellor or the Treasurer has to hand over current duties until the President and the Chancellor appoint a new Vice-Chancellor when the term of the Vice-Chancellor expires. However, NSU’s Board of Trustees (BOT) has appointed North South University (NSU) Vice-Chancellor Prof. Atiqul Islam to the current position in violation of the law. Controversy was created by giving him a new duty of 18 months while the ACC was investigating the money fraud allegations against Atiqul Islam, who gave up his Bangladeshi citizenship and held a foreign passport.

Meanwhile, the University Grants Commission (UGC) is looking into the issue of appointment for the third term in violation of the law, confirmed the member of the UGC, Professor Dr. Sajjad Hossain.

When contacted about these matters, VC Professor Atiqul Islam of North South University said that since I took a special role in making the university free from militants, a group has been carrying out various conspiracies against me. No accusation against me will be true. He also denied the allegation of grabbing the appointment of VC for the third consecutive time in return for a bribe of Tk 140 crore. In response to a question, the VC said that being close to the recently departed Law Minister and Home Minister was a personal and family matter. In response to another question, he said, the Board of Trustees of North South University appointed me to the current position – if it is illegal, it is their crime. I did not occupy the post by force.
