16 gates of Kaptai Dam will be opened at 10 pm tonight

Several days of continuous rain and water coming down from the upstream has increased the water level of Kaptai lake. 16 water gates of Kaptai Dam will be opened to control the flood situation. Saturday (August 24) authorities will release 6 inches of water at each gate between evening and 10 pm. It will drain 9 thousand cusecs of water per second. This was confirmed by the manager of Kaptai Jal Power Plant, ATM Abduzzah.

According to Kaptai Water Power Plant, the water capacity of Kaptai Lake is 109 MSL. At 3 pm the water in the lake is 107.66 feet MSL (mean sea level).

The letter signed by ATM Abduzzah, Manager of Kaptai Jal Power Station also informed that rainfall is being closely monitored. If the water in the lake increases further, the opening of the spillway gate will be increased. He also said that currently there is more water in the lake than required according to the rule curve, as a result of which the 5 units of the Kaptai hydro power plant are generating a maximum of 219 megawatts of electricity. 32 thousand cfs of water is discharged through each unit. However, a maximum of 230 to 240 MW of electricity is possible from 5 units. Rangamati Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Mosharf Hossain Khan confirmed the matter and said that the water in the area around Kaptai Lake is increasing. So it has been decided to open the water closet.
