Gold prices increased again in the local market on Saturday. As a result, the price of 22-carat gold has risen to Tk 265,415 per vori, up from the previous rate of Tk 261,041. This marks an increase of Tk 4,374 per vori in a single adjustment.

Last week, prices were revised upward twice, with a combined increase of Tk 5,482. This time, the hike exceeds Tk 4,000 in one move.

In a statement issued this morning, the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) said the price adjustment was made due to a rise in the cost of pure gold in the local market. However, the primary driver behind the change is the increase in gold prices in the global market.

According to the latest BAJUS rates, 21-carat gold now costs Tk 253,342 per vori, while 18-carat gold is priced at Tk 217,126 per vori. Gold produced through the traditional method is being sold at Tk 177,701 per vori.

The association also noted that a mandatory 5 percent government VAT will be added to the selling price.

Gold prices in the domestic market have been volatile since late January. On some occasions, prices were raised in the morning and reduced later the same day. On January 29, gold saw a record single-day increase of Tk 16,213 per vori, pushing the price of high-quality gold to Tk 286,000 — the highest level ever recorded in the country.

Local gold prices are generally adjusted in line with international market trends. After a brief period of decline, global prices climbed again last week. According to U.S. time, gold’s spot price jumped by more than $100 per ounce on Friday, reaching $5,278.10 per ounce.

Over the past two weeks, global gold prices have fluctuated. In the last 30 days, the price has fallen by $150 overall, although it has increased by $1,762 over the past six months.
