Gold Price Drops Again in Bangladesh, Now 3,236 Taka per Tola

On Monday, gold prices in Bangladesh fell, with 22-carat high-quality gold now priced at 264,978 Taka per tola, marking a drop of 3,236 Taka from the previous rate. Silver prices also declined.

This is the first adjustment of the week, following a streak of four consecutive days of price increases last week. After reaching a peak, gold prices were reduced by 9,214 Taka on Wednesday. Overall, gold prices rose by 2,799 Taka over the week.

The Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) issued a notice this morning stating that the local market saw a reduction in the prices of both pure gold and silver, effective from 10 a.m. today. The decline is primarily due to falling international gold and silver rates. The price of high-quality silver dropped by 175 Taka per tola, now standing at 6,357 Taka.

According to BAJUS, the current rates for other gold types are:

  • 21-carat gold: 252,876 Taka per tola

  • 18-carat gold: 216,775 Taka per tola

  • Traditional gold: 176,943 Taka per tola

The notice also confirmed that a mandatory 5% VAT, set by the government, will be added to gold sales prices.

Gold prices in Bangladesh have been volatile since late January, with multiple intra-day adjustments. On January 29, gold reached a historic high, with one tola of high-quality gold priced at 286,000 Taka—the highest ever in the country.

Globally, gold prices have fluctuated due to the ongoing Israel-Iran conflict. While prices initially rose after the conflict began, they are now falling. According to U.S. market data, as of Monday, gold lost about 82 dollars per ounce, now trading at roughly 5,090 dollars per ounce.

Over the past 30 days, international gold prices increased by around 116 dollars, and over the last six months, prices have risen by approximately 1,530 dollars per ounce.
