The price of packaged sugar is being reduced by 5 BDT per kilogram by importing companies, bringing the new retail price to 120 BDT per kg, down from the previous 125 BDT. Similarly, the price of loose sugar has been lowered to 118 BDT per kg.

This decision follows a recent decline in global raw sugar prices, prompting local markets to adjust accordingly. Currently, loose sugar is being sold at 120 BDT per kg, while packaged sugar remains at 125 BDT per kg.

Top players in the sugar market, Meghna Group and City Group, are leading these adjustments. Meghna Group has already started distributing sugar at the reduced price, while City Group is expected to follow suit. According to Taslim Shahriar, Senior Assistant Manager of Meghna Group of Industries, new packaging with the revised price began on Monday, and the updated sugar is already being supplied to the market.
