Tashnia Fabrics in Gazipur has been recognized as one of the world's top environmentally friendly factories after earning the highest score ever awarded in a LEED certification. The administrative building scored an impressive 107 out of 110 points under the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) standard, granted by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). This recognition was officially confirmed by the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA).
On May 8, both the administrative and RMG buildings of Tashnia Fabrics received LEED certification, with the latter scoring 106 points. Alongside Tashnia, two more factories—including Comfit Golden Leaf in Tangail—were newly added to Bangladesh's growing list of green-certified garment facilities. To date, 243 factories in the country’s apparel and textile sector have earned LEED recognition, which includes 101 Platinum, 128 Gold, 10 Silver, and 4 Certified ratings.
Bangladesh continues to lead globally in green garment manufacturing, with 68 of the world’s top 100 LEED-certified apparel factories now located in the country. The LEED certification evaluates various environmental performance standards during both construction and operational phases, and buildings can apply for the certification either post-construction or after renovation. Points are awarded based on a 110-point system across nine criteria, with Platinum status starting at 80 points and above.
