The Ministry of Finance has issued fresh instructions regarding the interpretation of “grade” in the context of special benefits for government officials.

According to the circular released on Wednesday (July 30) by the Finance Division, the term "grade" will now refer to the substantive grade applicable to a particular post, rather than grades acquired through time scale, selection grade, or promotion to higher grades.

This directive is aligned with previous notifications dated June 3 and June 23 (Circular No. 165), which outlined the terms for awarding special benefits to officers.

Earlier, on June 23, the Finance Division had introduced a special benefit scheme for both military and civilian employees under the revenue budget. The corresponding notification also clarified the amount of financial benefit applicable to eligible personnel, based on their positions.
