The Malaysian government has agreed to recruit a select group of Bangladeshi workers who were unable to enter the country before the May 31, 2024 deadline. The recruitment will take place through Bangladesh Overseas Employment and Services Limited (BOESL), the state-owned agency.
The Bangladesh High Commission in Kuala Lumpur announced the decision via a revised notice issued on Friday, August 1.
According to the notice, the Malaysian authorities have permitted the recruitment of these individuals for the Construction and Tourism sectors under structured guidelines aimed at ensuring transparency and proper documentation.
This move follows a previous alert from the High Commission warning prospective migrants about fraudulent networks claiming to offer employment in Sabah—an area in Malaysia not covered by any formal labor agreement between the two nations.
The High Commission emphasized that there is no valid Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Bangladesh and Malaysia regarding employment in Sabah. Therefore, any promises of job opportunities there are unauthorized and considered illegal.
It also cautioned that certain dishonest groups have been exploiting job seekers by collecting passports and money in exchange for false assurances of employment—actions that constitute organized fraud.
Job seekers have been strongly urged to exercise caution and to rely solely on official and authorized recruitment processes.
