English-Medium Schools to Close from Monday for Ramadan and Eid
All schools in Bangladesh that follow foreign curricula (commonly known as English-medium schools) will remain closed starting Monday, March 9, in observance of the holy month of Ramadan and the upcoming Eid al-Fitr. During this period, all coaching centers—both Bangla and English medium—have also been instructed to suspend their activities.
The announcement was made in a statement issued by the Ministry of Education on Sunday (March 8, 2026).
According to the statement, a meeting was held with representatives of institutions operating under foreign curricula to address public inconvenience in major cities, including Dhaka, during Ramadan and to consider the broader global situation. The meeting was chaired by Education Minister Ahsanul Haque Milon. Participants unanimously agreed that regular classes in English-medium schools would remain suspended from Monday until the government-declared Eid holidays.
However, the directive clarified that any mandatory examinations scheduled by these institutions must still be conducted according to their previously announced timetables.
In addition, the ministry ordered all types of coaching centers—regardless of whether they serve Bangla or English-medium students—to halt their operations during this period.
Meanwhile, government primary, lower secondary, and secondary schools across the country have already been on vacation since February 19. These institutions will remain closed until March 26 due to Ramadan, the observance of Harichand Thakur’s birth anniversary, Shab-e-Qadr, Eid-ul-Fitr, and Independence Day of Bangladesh. With the latest decision, English-medium schools will now observe a similar holiday period.
