A writ petition has been filed with the High Court seeking a suspension of the activities related to the “July National Charter 2025.” The petition was submitted today (Wednesday) to the relevant bench by Supreme Court lawyer Yunus Ali Akand.
Earlier, on August 5, 2024, then–Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina left office and the country amid a mass uprising, reportedly departing for India. Following the change in power, the interim government initiated reform measures across various sectors of the state. As part of that process, the “July National Charter 2025” was signed on October 17 last year as a political consensus document outlining proposed reforms in different areas of governance.
According to the petitioner, the writ has been filed in the public interest challenging the legality of the July National Charter 2025. The petition requests the court to issue a rule asking why the charter should not be declared inconsistent with the Constitution. It also seeks a stay on all activities related to the charter until the rule is resolved.
The High Court is expected to hold a hearing on the matter next week.
