1,649 People Arrested in 24 Hours: Police Headquarters

The police have arrested 1,649 people in the past 24 hours, seizing firearms, gunpowder, and explosive devices.

According to a WhatsApp message sent today by the media branch of the Police Headquarters, authorities recovered 10 firearms, 30.5 kilograms of gunpowder, explosives, and several cocktail bombs during this period.

The arrests and seizures come amid heightened security following the verdict in the July killings case. Yesterday, the International Crimes Tribunal sentenced three high-profile individuals, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and ex-Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, to death, while former IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun received a five-year prison term.

Following the verdict, acts of sabotage and unrest were reported in Dhaka and other parts of the country. Over the past week, more than 40 vehicles were set on fire nationwide, and several locations witnessed explosions from cocktail bombs.
