Nurul Majid Mahmood Humayun, the 75-year-old former minister, passed away early Monday morning while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
Hospital officials confirmed that he was pronounced dead at 8:10am. The information was also verified by Inspector Md Faruk of the DMCH police outpost.
Humayun had been an inmate at Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj. Due to illness, he was admitted to the medicine ward of DMCH on September 27. As his condition deteriorated, prison authorities transferred him to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) on Sunday afternoon. He died the following morning.
According to police sources, his body has been kept at the hospital morgue for post-mortem examination.
Humayun was arrested by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Gulshan in September last year. He previously served as the Industry Minister under the ousted Awami League government.
