A Dhaka court has issued an arrest warrant against popular actress, singer, and director Meher Afroz Shaon in a case filed by her stepmother, Nishi Islam. The warrant was reportedly issued on April 22 by the Dhaka Metropolitan 1st Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court. The case involves allegations of physical abuse against Shaon’s father, Engineer Mohammad Ali, and stepmother, Nishi Islam.

According to court proceedings, two officers from Badda Police Station admitted to detaining and abusing Nishi Islam under the direction of the former Officer-in-Charge. As Shaon and several other accused, including former Detective Branch chief Harun-or-Rashid, failed to appear in court, arrest warrants were issued against them.

Nishi Islam expressed satisfaction with the court’s decision, stating that she wants justice served against all involved. The dispute traces back to early 2024 when Engineer Mohammad Ali posted a matrimonial advertisement, leading to his acquaintance and subsequent marriage with Nishi. Allegedly, this marriage angered Shaon and her siblings, who then abused their father and used influence to have Nishi imprisoned for six months.

Further allegations claim Shaon kept her father confined in a mental health facility by falsely declaring him mentally unstable. Previously, on January 15, Shaon was also reportedly detained and questioned by the Detective Branch in relation to her alleged attendance at a controversial meeting held in Kolkata concerning anti-government activities involving the ruling Awami League.
