India has expressed its desire to maintain a positive and constructive relationship with Bangladesh. During a regular press briefing on Thursday, April 17, Indian Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that India supports a democratic, inclusive, and prosperous Bangladesh. Responding to a question about the cancellation of transshipment privileges for Bangladesh, Jaiswal clarified that the move was due to congestion issues at Indian ports and airports, and it does not impact Bangladesh’s exports to Nepal and Bhutan. He emphasized the importance of expanding regional trade. Meanwhile, in a rare diplomatic development, Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary Amna Baloch held bilateral talks with her Bangladeshi counterpart, marking the first such engagement in 15 years. Pakistan's Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar is also scheduled to visit Bangladesh later this month. When asked about India’s view on this development, Jaiswal said the matter was being closely observed but did not offer further comment.
