Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday (April 28) at the Prime Minister’s official residence in New Delhi. According to a report by NDTV, citing ANI, the meeting focused on the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir following the recent Pahalgam incident. Earlier on Sunday, Rajnath Singh had a separate discussion with Chief of Defense Staff General Anil Chauhan regarding key military decisions taken in response to the attack. Although the specific details of the defense meeting were not disclosed, reports suggest the discussions included possible retaliatory measures against Pakistan.

Following the high-level meetings, Modi’s consultation with Rajnath Singh is seen as particularly significant, especially as tensions have escalated along the Line of Control (LoC), where Indian and Pakistani forces have been exchanging fire for four consecutive nights. India’s army claimed that Pakistani troops fired unprovoked at Indian positions in Kupwara and Poonch districts, prompting a strong response.

The violence follows the deadly Pahalgam attack on April 22 that killed 26 people, after which India took several steps against Pakistan, including suspending the Indus Waters Treaty of 1960 and canceling all visas for Pakistani nationals. In retaliation, Pakistan suspended the Simla Agreement, banned Indian aircraft from its airspace, and warned of possible war if India blocks the Indus River waters.

Amid this volatile situation, Indian military forces remain on high alert, and discussions are ongoing regarding further responses to Pakistan’s alleged involvement, according to defense sources.
