A tuna fish was sold for 1.3 million dollars at an auction in Japan, equivalent to approximately 16 crore Bangladeshi Taka. The fish was purchased by the renowned sushi restaurant chain, Ono-Dera Group, during the New Year's auction.
Weighing 276 kilograms, the bluefin tuna was put up for auction on Sunday (January 5). The Ono-Dera Group won the bidding with the highest offer of 1.3 million dollars.
The first tuna fish of the year always attracts significant attention at Tokyo's main fish market. For the past five years, large companies have competed fiercely to purchase the fish. An official from Ono-Dera Group commented, “The first tuna of the year brings good fortune. We hope people will enjoy it, and it will bring them a prosperous year.”
This auction is also a marketing strategy for large companies, as buying the first tuna garners extensive media coverage and publicity.
