Security was tightened outside the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) this morning as 13 army officers—accused in two cases involving enforced disappearances during the Hasina-era—were scheduled to be presented before the court.

They arrived at the tribunal premises around 9:57am in a green, air-conditioned prison van and were later moved to the ICT lockup.

The officers are expected to appear before ICT-1 for the second consecutive day, in line with the court’s schedule.

To ensure order in the area, members of BGB, Rab, and police have been stationed around the tribunal since early morning.

On October 22, the same officers—previously held under army custody—were produced before ICT-1 amid strict security.

The tribunal subsequently ordered 15 army officers to be sent to jail and directed authorities to publish notices in two national newspapers summoning the other accused who remain absconding.

The prosecution has formally charged 28 individuals, including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and 23 senior and mid-level serving and retired army officials, in connection with the two cases.

One case relates to enforced disappearances allegedly linked to the Task Force for Interrogation (TFI) Cell, run by Rab. According to the charges, 14 detainees were allegedly held and tortured there between 2016 and 2024.

The second case involves the Joint Interrogation Cell (JIC) under the DGFI, where 24 people were reportedly detained and tortured from 2016 to August 2024.

On October 8, after reviewing the formal charges, the tribunal issued arrest warrants for 30 accused, including the 23 retired and serving army personnel.
