The prosecution has obtained critical call records involving Sheikh Hasina and others related to the mass killings during the July-August uprisings. Key evidence linked to enforced disappearances has also been uncovered. However, prosecutors have alleged a lack of cooperation in providing information to the tribunal.
On Monday afternoon, prosecutors Tanvir Hasan Joha and B.M. Sultan Mahmud informed the International Crimes Tribunal about the discovery of significant call records and evidence related to enforced disappearances. During a media briefing, Prosecutor Tanvir Joha stated that vital evidence of disappearances has been found, adding that extensive measures were taken to destroy proof of the killings. He also confirmed the acquisition of crucial call records tied to those involved.
The tribunal is currently conducting trials for crimes against humanity connected to the killings during the uprisings. The incidents in July and August, initially triggered by quota reform protests and later evolving into anti-government movements, have been termed “genocide.”
While the exact death toll remains uncertain, a preliminary list from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare places the number of fatalities at 708. Efforts to finalize the death toll are ongoing.
