Police have arrested Mashiur Rahman, central vice-president of the banned organization Chhatra League, near the BCSIR premises in Dhaka’s Science Lab area on Wednesday night.
According to Mohsin Uddin, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of New Market Police Station, Mashiur Rahman is facing charges in three separate cases filed at New Market, Shahbagh, and Dhanmondi police stations. Among these, cases include allegations related to the July student protests and an attack on the motorcade of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
He was detained around 8 PM and will be presented before the court on Thursday. Police are considering seeking remand if further interrogation is deemed necessary.
Notably, the Ministry of Home Affairs declared Chhatra League a banned organization under anti-terrorism laws on October 24 last year.
