The Appellate Division has ordered the reinstatement of jobs for 1,137 candidates deprived of appointments in the 27th BCS. The directive was issued on Thursday by a five-member bench, led by Chief Justice Dr. Syed Refaat Ahmed, marking the end of a 17-year-long wait for the affected candidates. This decision follows a hearing on appeals filed against allegations of irregularities and corruption during the state of emergency in 2007, which led to the cancellation of the initial results of the 27th BCS oral examination. Representing the appellants, Barrister Salauddin Dolon argued that the military-backed caretaker government of 2007 had no legal authority to cancel the first oral examination results and conduct a second oral test, as this was not permitted under the PSC Act and regulations. Initially, the first oral test, conducted during the BNP government, declared 3,567 candidates successful on January 21, 2007. However, during the emergency, on June 30, the results were annulled, leading to a second oral test in July 2007, where 3,229 candidates passed. The first group challenged the decision in court, and in 2023, the High Court ruled the second oral test invalid. Following further appeals and legal challenges, the Appellate Division has now resolved the matter, reinstating the jobs for the initially successful candidates.
