Lutfuzzaman Babar, former state minister for home affairs and BNP leader, has been granted bail in a case involving the acceptance of a 21 crore taka bribe to exonerate Safiat Sobhan Sanvir, an accused in the murder case of Sabbir, a director of Bashundhara Group. The bail was granted by Judge Md. Abu Taher at the Special Judge Court-3 in Dhaka on Thursday. The court has set March 18 for presenting arguments in the case, which involves eight accused, including BNP’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman and Lutfuzzaman Babar. The case was filed in 2007 at Ramna Police Station, accusing them of accepting the bribe to release Safiat Sobhan Sanvir from the charges of Sabbir's murder. Other accused in the case include Miah Nur Uddin Appu, Tarique Rahman’s former APS, Kazi Salimul Haq Kamal, Ahmed Akbar Sobhan, Safiat Sobhan, Sadat Sobhan, and Abu Sufiyan.
