Former State Minister for Home Affairs, Lutfozzaman Babar, has been acquitted by the High Court in a case related to the recovery of illegal weapons from his Gulshan residence. The High Court declared his 17-year prison sentence invalid. The case dates back to May 28, 2007, when illegal firearms and ammunition were found at Babar’s house. On June 3, 2007, a case was filed at the Gulshan police station, and by October 30 of the same year, a special tribunal sentenced him to 17 years in prison. Babar appealed the sentence in 2007, and after nearly 17 years in detention, he was released from Dhaka Central Jail on January 16, 2025, following acquittals and bail in other cases. The proceedings of this case had been suspended by the High Court.
