Justice Khizir Hayat of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh has been removed from his position. The removal was confirmed by a notification signed by Secretary Sheikh Abu Taher on behalf of the President, issued on Wednesday.
According to the notification, Justice Hayat was removed on Tuesday, in line with Article 96(6) of the Constitution. As per this article, if an investigation by the Council reports to the President that a judge is unable to perform his duties properly or has committed serious misconduct, the President can issue an order for the judge's removal from office. Following this constitutional provision, President of Bangladesh directly removed Justice Khizir Hayat.
Born on January 24, 1967, Khizir Hayat completed his education at Dhaka University. He joined the Dhaka District Judge Court on August 6, 1997, and became a lawyer in the High Court Division on February 9, 2001. He was appointed as an additional judge in the High Court Division on May 31, 2018, and was made permanent two years later.
