Four individuals have been presented before the International Crimes Tribunal in connection with the killing of Abu Sayeed, who was shot dead by police in Rangpur. The accused include former ASI Amir Hossain, Constable Sujon Chandra Roy of Tajhat Police Station, former Proctor of Begum Rokeya University Shariful Islam, and the university’s former Chhatra League General Secretary Imran Chowdhury.
They were brought to the tribunal on the morning of Wednesday, April 9, following a prosecution request submitted earlier on March 2. According to the prosecution, prior to the killing, student leaders and the former proctor allegedly launched multiple attacks to force protesting students off campus.
During the height of the movement, two police officers allegedly shot Abu Sayeed at close range in cold blood. Chief Prosecutor Tazul Islam stated that evidence from the investigation links the former proctor directly to the killing.
The case stems from a complaint filed on January 13 by Abu Sayeed’s family, naming 25 individuals over the incident that occurred during the July protests in Rangpur.
