Judicial employees across Bangladesh are observing a two-hour work stoppage in protest of the demand for a separate pay scale and appointment regulations for the judicial service. The protest began on Monday, May 5, with employees of subordinate courts participating in a complete work halt from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM.
The protest was organized by the association, with President Md. Rezaul Khondkar and General Secretary Kazi Md. Salahuddin informing the public about the event. On April 19, the association had announced this program after discussions within its executive committee. During a press conference on the same day, the association requested the government to meet their demands by May 4.
Although the association’s team contacted senior government officials several times after the announcement, there has been no visible progress on addressing their demands. As a result, the employees proceeded with the two-hour work stoppage, warning that if their demands are not met, they will announce further, larger protests.
