The formal trial process for the first case linked to the July uprising has begun with charges submitted to the International Crimes Tribunal against eight individuals, including former Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Habibur Rahman Habib. The case concerns the killing of six protesters during the student-led uprising in Chankharpul, Dhaka, on August 5. The charges were officially submitted on Sunday, May 25, according to prosecutor Gazi MH Tamim, who confirmed that the tribunal would proceed to the next phase once the charges are formally accepted. The investigation for the case concluded on April 21. Among the accused, four—including Inspector Arshad and Constables Sujon, Imaz Hossain Emon, and Nasirul Islam—are currently in custody. Others named in the case include former DMP Joint Commissioner Sudip Kumar Chakraborty and former ADC of Ramna Zone, Shah Alam Md. Aktarul Islam.
