A court today found former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina guilty and sentenced her to seven years in prison, while her daughter, Saima Wazed Putul, received a five-year prison term in a case concerning alleged irregularities in the allocation of a 10-katha plot in the Rajuk New Town Project in Purbachal.
The verdict was delivered by Judge Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun of Dhaka Special Judge Court-5. Both Hasina and Putul were tried in absentia, as they have not yet been taken into custody.
The court had scheduled the judgment for today, November 28, following the completion of arguments from both the prosecution and defense on November 23.
The case was initially filed on January 12, 2025, by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Assistant Director Afnan Jannat Keya against 16 individuals, including Sheikh Hasina and Saima Wazed Putul. The charge sheet was later expanded to include 18 accused.
Charges were formally framed on July 31, 2025, and arrest warrants were issued for all accused.
