According to the commission’s proposal, teachers, researchers, doctors, scientists, and engineers will receive additional allowances on top of their basic salaries. Even if officials belong to the same pay grade and receive equal basic pay, the recommendations suggest extra benefits based on the importance and nature of their professional roles. Following today’s final approval, the report will be submitted to the highest level of the government.
However, Economic Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed has indicated that not all recommendations may be implemented in full. He expressed hope that government employees would be satisfied with the interim government’s proposals.
It is worth noting that on 27 July last year, a 21-member Pay Commission was formed to set a new salary structure for government employees. The commission is headed by former Finance Secretary Zakir Ahmed Khan, who is also the Chairman of the Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF). The commission was instructed to submit its report within six months. Currently, government employees are receiving salaries and benefits under the 2015 pay scale, and the total number of government employees in the country is approximately 1.5 million.
