Barrister Kaiser Kamal, the BNP candidate who won the Netrokona-1 constituency, has said he wants to work for local development by bringing together even those who ran against him in the election.

Speaking after his landslide victory in the 13th National Parliamentary Election held on Thursday (February 12), he emphasized that the time for politics of revenge is over. “There should be no more vindictive politics. I want to work with my rival candidates in a spirit of friendship and mutual respect to develop the constituency, so that we can fulfill the expectations of the people who voted for us,” he said.

According to the latest available results, out of 124 polling centers in the constituency, votes from 122 centers have been counted, and he has been unofficially declared elected by a large margin.

Kamal also stated that, following what he described as a fascist regime, the country has finally witnessed a long-awaited and credible election. He noted that many voters were previously deprived of casting their ballots freely in the past three elections. This time, he said, people were able to vote with sincerity and reflect their true opinions.

He paid tribute to those he referred to as the “July fighters,” whose sacrifices, he said, made the fair election possible. Although the contest was competitive, he reiterated his commitment to moving forward without hostility and working collectively for the betterment of the area.

As of now, unofficial results have been announced for 289 out of 299 parliamentary seats in the February 12 election. Candidates from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and its alliance have secured 210 of those seats, paving the way for the formation of a new government under BNP leadership. The upcoming administration is expected to be led by Tarique Rahman. If finalized, this would mark the first time in 35 years that Bangladesh will have a male prime minister.
