Science and Technology Minister Fakir Mahbub Anam has announced that nuclear fuel has been loaded into the reactor at the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, marking an important step in the project’s development.

Speaking at a discussion event organized by the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission on Sunday, the minister said the fuel-loading process has been completed. However, he emphasized that the facility is not yet ready for commercial operation, as several technical tests, safety checks, and commissioning procedures still need to be completed before the reactor can begin generating electricity.

The minister also acknowledged the ongoing gas and electricity shortages affecting the country, noting that households and industries have been facing significant difficulties due to energy supply constraints.

According to him, the government is working on multiple measures to address the current energy challenges and improve the overall power situation. He urged citizens to remain patient while authorities continue efforts to stabilize energy supplies and bring major projects online.

The Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant is expected to play a significant role in strengthening Bangladesh’s long-term energy security once all testing and regulatory requirements are completed and the facility becomes operational.
