The High Court has scheduled December 17 to deliver its verdict on the rule questioning the legality of the abolition of the caretaker government system and the 15th Amendment to the Constitution.

The decision was announced on Thursday, December 5, by the High Court bench of Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Debashish Roy Chowdhury. The court finalized the date after concluding hearings on December 4. Attorneys Fida M. Kamal and Shahriar Kabir represented the petitioners in the hearing.

The 15th Amendment was passed in the National Parliament on June 30, 2011, and received presidential approval on July 3 of the same year. This amendment abolished the caretaker government system and granted constitutional recognition to Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as the Father of the Nation.

Additionally, the amendment increased the number of reserved seats for women in Parliament from 45 to 50, reinstated secularism and religious freedom, and reaffirmed the state principles of nationalism, socialism, democracy, and secularism.

Challenging these changes, five individuals, including Badiul Alam, filed a writ petition. The other petitioners are Tofail Ahmed, M. Hafiz Uddin Khan, Zobairul Haque Bhuiyan, and Zahra Rahman.
