In a deeply troubling case from Magura, the prime suspect in the rape and death of a third-grade girl, Hitu Sheikh—identified as the father-in-law of the child’s elder sister—has been confirmed through DNA evidence. The information was confirmed by Khulna Range DIG Md. Rezaul Haque, who stated that Hitu Sheikh’s involvement has been proven beyond doubt, while investigations into other suspects are still ongoing. He added that a charge sheet would be filed very soon.
Despite a month having passed since the incident, local residents, classmates, and teachers at the child’s school continue to demand swift justice. The school, which had been closed during Ramadan, recently reopened after a one-and-a-half-month break. On Monday (April 7), teachers expressed their anguish and urged authorities to ensure maximum punishment for those responsible.
The tragic event took place on March 6, when the child was visiting her sister’s house and was allegedly assaulted. She later died on March 13 while receiving treatment at the Dhaka Combined Military Hospital. Following the incident, her mother filed a case at Magura police station. Four individuals—including the sister’s father-in-law, his wife, and two sons—were named and are currently in custody. However, the charge sheet has yet to be submitted to the court, even after more than a month since the incident.
