Election Commissioner Anwarul Islam Sarkar has stated that the Election Commission is proceeding with preparations for national polls scheduled for December and is not concerned about the current law and order situation. He expressed confidence that the overall situation will improve further if elections are held in December.
Speaking to reporters in his office at the Election Commission headquarters in Agargaon on Wednesday (April 16), the commissioner said that dialogues with political parties and stakeholders are planned between August and September.
He also mentioned that individuals turning 18 before the election schedule is announced will be eligible to register as voters and cast their ballots in the upcoming national elections.
The Election Commission aims to complete discussions with political parties before announcing the official schedule, he said, adding that the commission is not currently considering extending the deadline for party registration.
