Heavy rain forecast, warning in mountains and seaports

The flood situation is still going on in some areas in the northern and eastern parts of the country. Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has predicted moderate to heavy rains across the country.

Meteorologists said that it may rain throughout this week. Landslide warning has already been issued in the hilly areas. Seaports have been asked to display local warning signal number 3.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has predicted rain again in Sylhet from Friday. Accordingly it has rained there today. On this day, 6.9 millimeters of rain fell from 6 am to 6 pm.

Sajib Hossain, a meteorologist at the Meteorological Office of Sylhet, said that the flood water may rise again in Sylhet due to the onset of rain.

Flood waters continue to recede from rivers and marshes. All the rivers including Surma, Kushiara, except one point, are flowing below the water line. Water flows over 85 cm at Fenchuganj point of Kushiara river this afternoon and evening. Water is seen flowing in different parts of Haripur-Gachbari road in Jaintapur. One-third of the 12 km road is under water. Kanaighat-bound vehicles are moving at risk. Many rural roads in the flood-hit areas are moving similarly.

According to the Meteorological Department, a low pressure has formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal and its surrounding areas. Monsoon is active over Bangladesh and strong elsewhere in North Bay of Bengal.

According to Bangladesh Water Development Board’s Flood Forecasting and Warning Center, Brahmaputra-Yamuna water is stable so far, which may continue for the next 24 hours.

Apart from this, the water of Ganga-Padma river is rising, which may continue for next 48 hours. The main rivers in the northeastern part of the country are receding. In the next 48 to 72 hours, the water of the Surma, Kushiara, Old Surma, Sarigoin rivers in the northeastern region will rise rapidly and cause short-term flooding in some low-lying areas of Sylhet and Sunamganj districts.
