Bangladesh is observing three days of state mourning following the death of Pope Francis, the supreme religious leader of the Catholic Church. As part of the observance, national flags have been lowered to half-mast on all government, semi-government, autonomous, and private institutions, including educational establishments and Bangladeshi missions abroad. Special prayers are also being held for the repose of his soul. The mourning period, which began on Thursday, April 24, will continue until Saturday, April 26. This decision was announced through an official notification issued on the evening of April 23, signed by Cabinet Secretary Dr. Sheikh Abdur Rashid on behalf of the President. Pope Francis, who was also the head of state of Vatican City, passed away on April 21 at the age of 88 at his residence in Casa Santa Marta. He served as the leader of the Catholic Church for over a decade, leaving behind a legacy of significant contributions.
