Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, adviser to the Ministry of Local Government and the Ministry of Youth and Sports, stated that he has no immediate plans to resign from his advisory role ahead of the upcoming elections. However, he hinted that if he eventually decides to enter politics, he may consider joining a party other than the National Citizen Party (NCP).

Speaking to reporters after inspecting the Rural Poverty Alleviation Foundation's recruitment examination at Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University on Saturday afternoon (April 26), Asif Mahmud clarified his position. In response to a question, he said, "At this point, I have no intention of stepping down. There’s also no reason to assume that I will necessarily join any particular political party. If and when I choose to enter politics, I will select the best possible option for myself."

He added, "Because of our leadership in the July People's Uprising, there is significant public expectation from us. Many believe we are committed to working for the country's long-term betterment. However, it is not yet the right time to decide which political platform to align with."

Addressing another topic, Asif responded to allegations of financial irregularities against the BCB president, saying that the decision to avoid risky banks was made in the organization's best interest.

Regarding controversies over personal assets and his APS, Asif clarified that due to the absence of a Tax Identification Number (TIN) for the previous year, he could not fully disclose his assets in income tax filings.

Additionally, he pointed out that due to corruption and mismanagement during past authoritarian regimes, the Rural Poverty Alleviation Foundation had been left dysfunctional. Although 751 positions were approved, only 51 employees are currently in service, with recruitment processes having been suspended since 2016. Efforts are now underway to restore the institution through fresh appointments.
