The International Crimes Tribunal has issued a court summons for former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in connection with the coup that took place during July–August last year. She has been asked to appear before the tribunal at 10 a.m. on June 3. The notice was published in two national newspapers on Monday, May 26.
According to the tribunal’s investigation agency, a viral audio clip circulating on social media—where a voice is heard saying, "I have been given a license to kill 227 people"—has been confirmed through forensic analysis to be that of Sheikh Hasina. Based on this, and her alleged comments made from India that were deemed to obstruct judicial proceedings and issue threats, a charge of contempt of court has been brought against her.
On Sunday, May 25, the tribunal ordered the publication of notices in newspapers directing her to appear in court.
The audio, which triggered significant controversy, reportedly features Hasina claiming, “There are 227 murder cases against me, and I’ve been granted a license to kill 227 people.” The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) later verified the authenticity of the voice in the recording. Subsequently, on April 30, a petition for contempt was formally filed against her.
