A well-marked low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal is likely to cause rainfall in some parts of the country starting Friday evening or night. However, heavier rain is expected on Saturday, with light or drizzling rain possible in some areas on Sunday. This weather change, along with cloudy skies, will reduce daytime temperatures, potentially intensifying the feeling of winter during the day.
Meteorologists predict that the true onset of winter will be felt after the rain. Once the rain subsides and the moisture and clouds dissipate, nighttime temperatures are expected to drop significantly. They anticipate a noticeable decline in temperatures after December 24, leading to a potential cold wave in certain regions during the last week of December.
According to meteorologist Md. Bazlur Rashid, light to moderate rain is likely in Dhaka, Khulna, Barisal, and Chittagong divisions, while other regions may experience only light or scattered showers. Rainfall will be more significant on Saturday, and its duration will depend on its intensity. If the clouds clear entirely by the weekend, rain may cease altogether. However, if residual clouds persist, light rain could continue in some areas until December 23 or 24.
He added that while daytime temperatures will drop due to cloud cover, nighttime temperatures may not see much change until after the rain ends. Post-rain, clearer skies and lower moisture levels are expected to bring colder nights, with certain areas likely to experience cold waves.
