Covering all exposed soil in Dhaka with trees, grass, and flowering plants could significantly reduce environmental pollution, said Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Advisor to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. She made the remarks on Thursday morning, June 26, at the inauguration of a greening initiative by the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) at Hararbari Square in Purbachal.
Rizwana Hasan emphasized that unplanned housing is being built at the cost of environmental destruction, which is unacceptable. She urged residents to plant trees wherever there is soil, including on rooftops, to help preserve the environment.
Speaking at the event, DNCC Administrator Mohammad Aziz added that, unlike in the past, there is now no conflict between the city corporation and other government agencies. He stated that development efforts are being carried out in coordination with all relevant authorities, ensuring that the outcomes align with public needs.
